I doubt you have heard the name Mike Elam before.
And that’s no surprise. Even if he doesn’t have the notoriety of Sidney Crosby or Alex Ovechkin, Mike is certainly just as much a part of the great sport of ice hockey as either player. Mike currently serves as an NCAA DI referee and as the manager at a rink in his home state of Minnesota. In this article from USA Hockey, Mike shares his start and upbringing in the sport and the ways he remains involved in the game even beyond his playing career, including the many sacrifices he has made to stay close to the sport he loves. It is an awesome look at a hockey lifer, a tale shared by many die-hards across the globe. I know identifying with that group myself, I couldn’t read this article without having my own passion for the sport reinvigorated.
